Southeast third, fifth at 1A Regionals

TORRINGTON – The Southeast High School track and field teams combined for nine wins over the two-day event.

Junior Jordan Stoddard won all four events she entered, winning the 100 and 200-meter dashes, along with long jump and high jump.

Stoddard won the 100-meter dash in 12.8 seconds, edging out teammate Emma Short, who finished third in 13.38. Stoddard also won the 200-meter dash in a season best time of 26.66 seconds, while Short was sixth in 28.36 seconds.

Stoddard also cleared 5 feet, 6 inches to win high jump, while her leap of 18-5 won long jump.

Sophomore Shelby Ekwall and the 4x100-meter relay team also picked up wins for the Lady Cyclones.

Ekwall’s throw of 34-6 in shot put beat out teammate Harper Boche, who finished second at 33-11. In discus, it was Boche’s 84-10 throw beating out Ekwall at 81-7. They finished third and fifth, respectively.

In other field events, freshmen Kylie Lewellen and Tylar Stoddard placed third and fourth in triple jump, while Shasha Haines cleared 7 feet to finish sixth in pole vault.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Haines, Short, Tylar Stoddard and Hattie Waltermire won the race in 55.22 seconds, while the 4x400 of Haines, Porter, Tylar Stoddard and Lewellen finished second in 4:32.87.

In the sprint medley relay, Haines, Short, Tylar Stoddard and Lewellen finished third in 5:06.19.

In the 400-meter dash, freshmen Kailey Porter and Sydney Moeller finished fifth and eighth in 1:11.88 and 1:20.89, respectively.

As a team, the Lady Cyclones finished third with 120 points. Kaycee won the team title with 150, and Lingle-Fort Laramie was second with 136.

In the boys’ division, junior Ryan Clapper picked up two wins and was a member of the 4x100-meter relay team who also picked up a win.

Clapper was one of three Cyclones to qualify for state in the 100-meter dash, winning the event in 11.53 seconds. Seniors Reece Robertson and Brant Fullmer were fifth and eighth, respectively.

Clapper topped the 200-meter dash field in 22.7 seconds.

In the 4x100 relay, the team of Clapper, Fullmer, Robertson and Grant Logsdon won in 47.28 seconds. In other relay action, the sprint medley relay team of Wyatt Gladson, Lance York, Matthew Chapman and Kirk Kay placed fifth in 4:30.02.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Dawson Mullock finished fourth in 47.3 seconds.

In field events, Logsdon paced the Southeast boys with a runner-up finish in pole vault, clearing 9-3, while junior Kirk Kay was seventh at 8-3. Logsdon also finished third in the triple jump at 38-6 1/4, while Robertson was fifth at 27-7 1/4. Robertson placed third in long jump at 18-5, while Mullock was seventh at 17-8 1/4.

In the throwing events, Tommy Mulkey finished third in shot put at 38-6 1/2, and sixth in the discus at 99-8.

As a team, the Cyclones finished fifth with 80 points. Lingle-Fort Laramie won the team title with 154 points. Upton was second with 151.

Action gets underway at the 1A State Track and Field Championships on Thursday at 3 p.m. with the 3,200-meter run at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper. Action resumes Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m.
