Mortimore named president of Wyoming Newspapers, Inc.

TORRINGTON – Torrington Telegram Publisher Rob Mortimore has been named president of Wyoming Newspapers, Inc. as announced by News Media Corporation Chief Operating Officer William McMacken, as of Feb. 3, 2023.

“This was a newly developed position as of February. It wasn’t something I set out to pursue or considered,” Mortimore said. “It just happened.”

As part of his new position, Mortimore will oversee operations in Torrington, Wheatland, Lusk, Lingle, Guernsey, Evanston, Pinedale, Kemmerer, Bridger Valley and Scottsbluff, Nebraska. In all, Wyoming Newspapers, Inc., consists of 11 newspaper operations around Wyoming and western Nebraska.

“The biggest challenges will be the proximity of all our publications. Not being able to be on site at each location when needed will be difficult. Luckily having quality staff will make this much easier.”

In addition, Wyoming Newspapers, Inc., is a subsidiary of News Media Corporation, based out of Rochelle, Illinois.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to work alongside the great staff we have on both sides of the state,” Mortimore said. “The future of Wyoming Newspapers, Inc., is bright, and I look forward to continuing to provide our communities with solid local news. We want to continue to grow Wyoming Newspapers, Inc., and provide a local source of news to our communities, while also helping our local businesses thrive and be successful.”

Mortimore is originally from Torrington, as well as makes his home in Torrington.

“I’ve been fortunate in my career to work with great mentors,” he added. “That, coupled with the tremendous staff we have across the board, is what makes this opportunity possible.”

Mortimore began his tenure at the Torrington Telegram in 2001 as a sports writer, and after a brief hiatus from the business, he returned to the sports desk in 2007 where he stayed as sports editor for five years.

“I fell into it,” Mortimore added. “I grew up doing everything around sports and was hired as a sports writer once my college playing career ended.”

In 2012, Mortimore was named general manager of the Telegram, Lusk Herald and The Business Farmer. After two years, he was named Publisher of the southeastern portion of Wyoming Newspapers, Inc., where he has remained until this most recent promotion. All in all, Mortimore has been with Wyoming Newspapers, Inc. for 17 years.

“Providing a quality newspaper and telling the stories of people within our small communities is what is important to me.”
