Lady Blazers handle visiting Lady Bison

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Lady Trailblazers won the first two sets Friday against Buffalo convincingly, before falling in the third and then rallying in the fourth to win their Homecoming matchup against the Lady Bison.

After scoring the first point in the first set, Torrington did not give up its lead, getting the wire-to-wire set win. Buffalo trimmed the Lady Blazer lead to one point on two different occasions, but Torrington continued to pull away, including ending the set on a five-point run to win 25-14.

The second set looked to be a lot different, as the Lady Bison held a lead for the beginning of the set. Torrington did not hold a lead until the score sat at 14-13. After a Buffalo point knotted things at 14, the Lady Blazers began stringing points together, running the score up to 23-16, forcing a timeout by the visitors. A slight rally of three points in a row was halted by one final point by Torrington, giving the home team a 25-18 win.

The largest lead Torrington had in the third set was three points (5-2), but the Lady Bison took that lead away quickly. The set was tied at 10 before Buffalo took control, scoring six-straight points. The Lady Bison went on to win 25-19. In the fourth set, the Lady Blazers took control in the closest set, winning 25-20.

Logan Murphy piled on the stats, including team-highs in aces, with five, and kills, with 18. She also contributed two blocks, an assist and 11 digs. Right behind Murphy was Sherbeyn, who accounted for four aces, 11 kills and a team-high 18 digs.

Taylor Walsh, who had an ace on the night, tallied up 16 digs. Nakalyn Garner racked up five kills, two blocks and two digs, while Ashley Schlagel kicked in three kills, two assists, two digs and a team-high four blocks.

Brooklyn Tucker led the way in assists, with 18, followed by Katelynn Wright, who had 13. Tucker also had two kills and 11 digs, while Wright rounded out her stat line with one kill and six digs. Paige Miller and Brielle Bivens combined for one kill, one block and eight digs in the win.

The Lady Blazers improved to 7-9 on the season, with a 2-1 record in the quadrant. They return to the floor on the road Thursday to take on Wheatland, starting at 6 p.m. Torrington also played Worland on the road Saturday, with a 3 p.m. start for the varsity contest.
