GUERNSEY – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers dropped the first set Friday on the road against Guernsey-Sunrise, before rallying to win the ensuing three sets.

In that first set, L-FL kept the scoring close, but the Lady Vikings still picked up the win, 29-27.

“We started off very slow and couldn’t get anything going,” coach Barb Clark said. “Guernsey dug the ball well, but we helped by hitting it cross-court every time. They didn’t have to move very much to dig our attacks. We passed the ball well and only had one service error in the first set, which is what kept us in the game.”

With the first set in the rearview mirror, the Lady Doggers cruised to victory. The won the second set 25-15, before picking up a 25-13 win in the third set. L-FL’s widest margin of victory came in the fourth and final set, 25-8.

“Finally, that (first) set ended and we got to move on. From that point on, things started turning around,” Clark said. “We had a better hitting percentage each set which made a big difference in our confidence… I’m not really sure what happened the first set, but we were able to forget about it and go on and play like we needed to to get the win.”

Amanda Riley was a big force at the net, racking up 15 kills and a stuff block. She rounded out her stat line with a team-high five aces and a tie for the team-high in digs, with nine. Jordyn Gaspers, Sierra Spears and Jade Cooper all had nine digs in the win.

Spears was second for the Lady Doggers in kills, with seven. Gaspers and Jordan Hunt each kicked in six kills. Gaspers also added four aces in the win, while Spears and Hunt combined for three.

Cooper also made a contribution at the service line, racking up four of L-FL’s 16 aces. She led the Lady Doggers in assists, with 26, while Paige Forkner chipped in three.

L-FL improved to 6-2 on the season. The Lady Doggers return to action in a match on the road Friday against Lusk, with the varsity game slated for 5 p.m. L-FL also competes in Lusk on Saturday in an invitational, starting at 9 a.m.
