L-FL girls drop final two games

LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers ended their regular season with two losses, falling Friday on Senior Night to Burns, 55-21, and losing on the road Saturday in Pine Bluffs, 74-30.

Burns 55, L-FL 21

The Lady Doggers came out of the gates hot by taking a 4-3 lead over the Lady Broncs, but the threes started falling for the visitors and at the end of the first frame, L-FL was looking at a 22-4 deficit. Burns’ offense was limited to 11 points in the second quarter, but the Lady Doggers’ one point in the quarter put the halftime score at 33-5.

Returning to the floor, Burns still had an edge in the third quarter, but L-FL kept it tighter, with the Lady Broncs outscoring the home team 12-9 in the third. Burns kept their distance from L-FL but outscoring the home team 10-7 in the final eight minutes of action.

Kaelyn Riley stepped up in the scoring department by racking up 10 points, including four from the charity stripe. She rounded out her stat line with a steal and team-highs in rebounds, with six, and assists, with three.

Ashley Riley accounted for seven points in the loss, along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Kelcie Sargent rounded out the scoring by recording four points, a rebound, an assist and a steal.

Shelby Heilbrun came down with five rebounds and an assist, while Callie Fritzler added another rebound for the Lady Doggers.

Pine Bluffs 74, L-FL 30

The Lady Doggers kept things tight with Pine Bluffs to open the game, facing a 16-10 deficit after the first quarter, but the Lady Hornets erupted for 27 points in the second, while holding L-FL to nine to put the halftime score at 43-19. Pine Bluffs picked up right where it left off for the third quarter, outscoring L-FL 19-2. In the fourth, the Lady Doggers were outscored 12-9.

Ashley Riley was the top scorer for the Doggers, racking up 15 points, including three from behind the arc and four from the free-throw line. The junior filled her stat line with a rebound, a steal and four of the team’s six assists.

Sargent shot 50 percent from the floor (3-of-6) to record six points on the night, along with two offensive rebounds, an assist and a steal. Heilbrun knocked down L-FL’s only other three-pointer on the night, finishing with three points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Fritzler, Kaelyn Riley and Katelynn Seyfang rounded out the scoring with two points apiece. Riley also had three rebounds and a steal. Jessy White and Kaylie Rafferty combined for three rebounds as well.

The Lady Doggers shot 38 percent from the floor and 100 percent from behind the arc (2-of-2).

L-FL dropped to 5-15 on the year after their back-to-back losses to close out the regular season. The Lady Doggers finished as the third seed out of the 1A Southeast for the 1A East Regional Tournament this weekend. They kick things off Thursday against Kaycee at 12 p.m. in Douglas.
