Blazer boys tennis sweeps Cheyenne East

CHEYENNE – The Torrington Trailblazer tennis teams took on Cheyenne East and Cheyenne South on Tuesday, with the Blazer boys completing the team sweep over Cheyenne East.
Ethan Creagar and Clay Peterson held down the fort in singles action. Creagar bested Luke Macy in No. 1 singles in two sets, 7-5 and 6-3. Peterson won by the same set scores over Seth Davidson in their No. 2 singles match.
Jaysen Stitt and Mason Brummell had the biggest widest margin of victory, besting Mason Paskett and Boston Smith in No. 3 doubles, 6-1 and 6-4. Levi Wickham and Mason Weis also picked up a win in doubles action, besting Jefferson Danso and Jacob Wonzy (6-2, 7-6).
At the top of the doubles ladder, Kelly Peterson and Brian Fenn went to a decisive third set against Nolan Gerdes and Grant Redman. The Blazers won the first set 6-4, before dropping the second set 6-4. The Torrington duo managed to snag the third set, 6-1.
Kelly Peterson and Fenn were the only Blazer boys to pick up a win over Cheyenne Central earlier in the afternoon. Still in No. 1 doubles, Peterson and Fenn bested Ryan Foster and Ben Bush in two sets, 6-2 and 7-6.
Clay Peterson was close to picking up a win in his match against Ryan Stempfli. Peterson dropped the first set, 6-4, before rallying to win the second, 6-3. He went on to drop the third, 6-2. Creagar also fell in his singles match against Brian Joelson (6-1, 6-1).

Wickham and Weis put up a fight in No. 2 doubles, but eventually fell to Alex Gillotti and Elijah Norgauer in two sets, 6-3 and 6-4. Stitt and Brummell were unable to string enough points together, losing to Bodhi Gibson and Brock Storebo (6-1, 6-2).

Girls action
The Lady Blazers also took on both Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central, dropping both matches as a team.
Torrington was able to wrestle two match wins away from Cheyenne East. Sera Glass and Aubree Powell picked up the win in No. 2 doubles over Delaney Schmidt and Lindsay Eldred (6-2, 6-4). Kalli Smith and Sydney West teamed up for No. 3 doubles action. They lost their first set, 7-6, before completing the comeback by winning the next two sets 6-3 and 6-0.
Mia Saucedo and Shelby Luttrell paired up for a No. 1 doubles match, winning the first set 6-1 before losing the next two sets (6-4, 6-4).
On the singles courts, Richelle Fitzsimmons gave Lexie Woolridge all she could handle. Fitzsimmons ended up losing the No. 2 singles match in two sets, but not before picking up some games herself (7-6, 7-5). Emi Glass took on Anna Larson at No. 1 singles, dropping the match in two sets, 6-3 and 6-1.
Cheyenne Central completed the sweep of the Lady Blazers, winning all five matches. Powell and Sera Glass had the closest match, losing in No. 2 doubles in two sets, 6-4 and 6-2. Also in doubles action, West and Smith fell (6-2, 6-3) as well as Saucedo and Luttrell (6-0, 6-2).
Fitzsimmons again put up a fight, but fell in two sets at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2). Emi Glass suffered a loss in her second match of the day, 6-0 and 6-1.
The Torrington boys played Alliance, Neb. on Thursday after press time. Both the boys and girls host Laramie today (Friday) at 4 p.m. The JV Blazers are set to compete in a tournament Saturday in Laramie. This week wraps up regular season action, with Torrington preparing for the regional tournament Sept. 15-16 in Cheyenne.
