TORRINGTON – This weekend members of the Torrington Volunteer Fire Department attended the 91st Annual Wyoming State Fire Association Convention, held in New Castle, Wyoming and came home record-holders.

“There are five total events over three days,” fire chief Luis Correa said. “The first day they competed in two events, the replacement and the Wye.”

Fire departments from Newcastle, Riverton, Afton, Wheatland, and Torrington participated in the three-day convention which consists of contests, social hour, and dinners to provide networking hours for volunteer firefighters.

“On the replace they took third place. On the Wye they took second place.  On the second day they competed in the horn,” Correa said. “They took fifth in that event.”

The five-man team broke a state record during one of the convention events.

“On the third day they completed in the wet test and the cellar.  They took last on the wet test and first on the cellar and set a state record,” Correa explained. “They also had two members make all tournament and got the sportsmanship award.”

Stay tuned next week for a feature story on the convention.
