EWC to host “Trucks are for Girls”

DOUGLAS – In a recent press release, the Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Entry Level Driver Training program is inviting the community to attend the second annual “Trucks are for Girls” event at the Douglas EWC campus. The event will take place on Saturday, October 12 at 10 a.m.

“We are inviting you to our second annual ‘Trucks are for Girls’ event at our EWC Douglas campus. Some of you were with us last year and I am inviting new vendors as well. If you know of women in transportation that have expressed an interest in being involved, please pass this information along to them,” instructor Ed Kimes explained. “We are looking for women in every aspect of transportation.”

According to Kimes, there was a delay in scheduling the event in order to coordinate plans with the girl scouts and this year the event will be open to the public.

“This year we are excited to say that we will be opening the event to the public as well,” the press release said. “We are inviting you to take part in this event. Your company is welcome to set up a table or booth with company information, give away items, etc. Let us know and we will have a table reserved for you.”

There will be room for buses during the event, according to Kimes, although he suggests notifying the campus in advance.

“We ask that representatives for companies and vendors be women. EWC is a member of Women in Trucking, and we believe that this event allows girls and women to see that there are great opportunities in the transportation industry,” the release reads. “We try very hard to have representatives from all areas of transportation. Office, brokers, insurance, warehouse, dispatch, bussing, trucking, drivers, etc.”
