THS names new head volleyball coach

TORRINGTON – Chelsi Jackson, a 2008 graduate of Torrington High School, has ascended to the top of the volleyball program, taking over as the head coach for the upcoming fall season.
“I’m very, very excited to get to be apart of this program – again,” Jackson said. “I played at Torrington High School and now I get to coach at the highest level here.”
Since graduating in 2008, Jackson is no stranger to volleyball in Goshen County. Last fall, she was the JV coach for the Lady Trailblazers. She also spent two years coaching at Eastern Wyoming College. Before her time at EWC and THS, Jackson coached volleyball at Torrington Middle School.

Through her coaching at the middle school, Jackson has known a lot of her current players since she coached them in seventh grade.
“A lot of these girls I’ve coached since they were seventh graders so I’m really excited to get to take them to a new level and start a new program with them,” Jackson said.
In Jackson’s address to the players on Monday morning, after being introduced as the new coach, she said that reaching the state tournament is the goal for this season. She said this season is going to be more goal oriented than in past seasons.
“Obviously, our goals are to be better than we were last year and the year before, but yet, the ultimate goal is to always make it to state,” Jackson said. “I’ve seen what these girls can do last year and I think this year they are more mature. They’ve got to see these teams and a lot of the teams that were hard last year are the teams we’ll play this year. This year we are going to be a team that is feared also.”
Jackson said she expects Torrington volleyball to gain more recognition as the seasons go on.
“I want us to be that team that everyone is excited about and say ‘They’re back, they’re good. Let’s go watch them. Let’s take the time and support these girls.’” Jackson said. “Torrington is going to get back on the map.”
