TORRINGTON – The family of Cynthia G. Hawkins, 67, announces that she has passed away February 25, 2023, after a long and brave fight against pancreatic cancer. She was born January 26, 1956 in Casper, to Wayne and Mary (Hughes) Hahn; their firstborn.
Cindy, the most caring and devoted daughter, sister, friend, mother, and grandmother, is survived by her mother, Mary Hahn; daughters, Amy, Sarah, and Katie, along with their families which includes her five grandchildren; her sister Shelley, brothers Tom and Bruce, and their families.
Cindy grew up in Torrington and upon graduating from high school in 1974, she moved to South Dakota to attend college. After graduating with two associates degrees, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri for work. Here she met Bill Hawkins at Catholic singles mixers – despite not being Catholic. They married that summer and had three daughters while moving between Colorado, Missouri, and Louisana, due to the nature of the oil & gas industry. Her family landed permanently in Greeley, Colorado in 1991.
Cindy began working for a truck licensing company in the mid ‘90s and stayed with them when they moved to Loveland from Greeley, and through two owners. Eventually she bought the company and began running it herself in Loveland.
She moved back to Greeley in 2016 to live with her daughter Sarah and her family: husband Nathan, and two children Henry and Riley. Cindy loved living with her oldest grandchildren and helped raise them for six years.
Cindy loved helping others feel good, to be happy; helping them with anything she could and gifting small tokens of her love frequently. She felt others’ pain and unfortunately sometimes took it to heart herself, but she would always help bring you up.
Cindy never met a stranger. In fact she often made new friends just while waiting in line at the grocery store, listening intently to the life story of someone she’d just met. She loved her family dearly, keeping in touch with second and third cousins, and always looked forward to the next family reunion. She loved babies and watching old reruns. She hated hot weather and dark chocolate. Her kindness and empathy left an imprint on all who knew her and she will be greatly missed every single day.
A Celebration of Life was held for Cindy in Torrington, on Saturday, June 3, 2023. We will have a graveside service at Valley View Cemetery at 11 in the morning.
If you can come, please wear something purple, even just a small touch, in honor of Cindy. Purple is the color for pancreatic cancer awareness and the color came to mean so much to Cindy; she wore something purple everyday.
In honor of Cindy, please consider making a donation to pancreatic cancer research, to butterfly habitat restoration groups, or simply planting some colorful flowers that will help to feed butterflies and other pollinators.
