Charles Lee Potter

FORT LARAMIE – Memorial services for Charles Lee Potter, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church with Reverend Elizabeth Morgan officiating. 

Burial with military and fire department honors will follow in the Fort Laramie Cemetery. 

Charles died January 28, 2024 at Goshen Healthcare Community and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the church or to the Fort Laramie Fire and Rescue Department.

Charles was born December 5, 1934 in Torrington the son of Charles Merril and Ena Marie (Worthen) Potter. 

He grew up and received his education in Fort Laramie graduating in 1952. He then entered the US Army where he served four years. Upon his return he married the love of his life Erma Joan Nolke. He worked various jobs in the area until he started working for the National Park Service at the Fort Laramie National Historic Site. He worked there for twenty-eight years before retiring.

Charles was a member of the Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church where he served in many capacities, a member of the Fort Laramie Fire and Rescue Department, served as Coordinator for Home Land Security, and served on the Fort Laramie Rural Fire District Board. 

Charles is preceded in death by, his wife Erma. 

Charles is survived by two sons Bill (Cindy) Potter of Fort Laramie and Lee (Erika) Potter of Lusk; a daughter Sherry (Phil) McBride of Cheyenne; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters Merlene Dooley, Frances Webb and Helen Potter.
