LARAMIE – Lingle is buzzing with excitement as one of its own, Natalie Speckner from Lingle-Fort Laramie High School, has been chosen for the prestigious Trustees’ Scholars Award. This award, given by the University of Wyoming, is the top academic scholarship for Wyoming seniors. Speckner is among 100 seniors from across the state who have been selected to receive this honor.

The scholarship is a four-year scholarship which covers the cost of an undergraduate degree, including tuition, mandatory fees, and university housing with a meal plan. It is a highly competitive award, with students from 28 different high schools, as well as one home-schooled student, being chosen. The recipients were evaluated based on their academic excellence, including their high school GPA, ACT/SAT scores, and rigor of their curriculum. In addition, each student was also interviewed individually.

The average GPA of this year’s award winners is an impressive 3.97, with an average ACT score of 32. Out of the 1,000 Wyoming high school seniors who applied to the University of Wyoming, only 200 were considered for the award. From there, only 150 were invited for interviews, and finally, 100 were chosen as the recipients of the scholarship.

To retain this prestigious scholarship for all four years at the University of Wyoming, students must maintain full-time continuous enrollment, taking at least 12 semester hours each fall and spring semester, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25.
