TORRINGTON – Larry Gene Hill, 84, of Torrington died Saturday, March 2, 2024.
Larry was born on January 23, 1940, in Lehigh, Kansas to Jacob “Jake” and Elizabeth, “Lizzie” (Hein) Hill. He was the 11th of 12 children.
Larry Sr. married Lois (Hoppe) Schanaman and to this union two sons, Calvin, and Larry Jr., were born.
Larry Sr. later met and married Mable Brothwell on April 3, 1970, and together they raised Calvin and Larry Jr.
Larry Sr. then started his own trucking and custom farming business with Mable and his boys. In the summers you could find them on their farms irrigating or putting up hay. In the winter they trucked hay to dairies. Larry Sr. traveled a lot of the country in his semi but stayed mainly in Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado over the last 30 years.
Larry Sr. and Mable divorced in August of 2002.
Larry Sr. continued to harvest hay on a much smaller scale and hauled hay to Colorado, until his health made it too hard to continue.
Larry’s survivors include sons Calvin (Peggy) Hill, Larry Jr. (Brandi) Hill, two siblings, Minnie and Bob, grandchildren, Paula (Jarrod) Anderson, Sydney (Nick) Jenkins, Alissa, Kensie, Corey (Macy), Chastin, Hayden and Cooper Hill, Great Grandchildren Camden, Holden and Jordyn Andersen, Hunter, Aria, Eddisyn, Terry Drake Hill, Benton, Ava Jenkins, Amiyah, Jayleigh Hill, Boehdi Long, Leighton Hill, Oaklee Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Jake, and Elizabeth, nine siblings, grandsons Tommy and Terry Hill, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
