Lady Blazers battle wind and tough Scottsbluff opponent

Posted

SCOTTSBLUFF – A powerful, relentless wind drove down from the north onto Lander’s Soccer Field in Scottsbluff as the Torrington High School Lady Blazers took on the Scottsbluff Lady Bearcats on April 16.

Sustained wind gusts made for less-than-ideal conditions for soccer, although the Lady Blazers’ relatively young squad put up a fight against both the weather and a tough opponent.

Scottsbluff ultimately prevailed, 10-0, although once again, the scoreboard did not reflect solid plays by both the Torrington offense and defense.

The Lady Blazers played a primarily defensive game in the first half, facing into the wind as well repeated strikes by the Lady Bearcats. Torrington made several attacks into Scottsbluff’s territory in the first half, however, led by sophomore Macy Tremain, freshman Zoe Wilson, sophomore Allie Martinez and junior Marisol Munoz.

Sophomore Kristin Prado played goalie during the first half and tallied 10 saves on 15 shots on goal by Scottsbluff.

Defensive plays by sophomore Natalie Lira, sophomore Kennedi Blevins and freshman Inez Chavez cleared Torrington’s defensive zone.

Torrington traveled to play Newcastle on Thursday, April 18. Results from the game were not available at press time.
