GOSHEN COUNTY – Following suit with the upcoming total solar eclipse, a new booth at the Goshen County Fair falls perfectly in line with the event’s theme: “To The Moon And Back”.
Solar Eclipse Sunglasses, based out of Cheyenne, will host a booth in the Ag Hall beginning Fair Day, Thursday, July 27 and running through Saturday. As a show of community support, owner Butch “George” Marlin plans to donate 10 percent of all glasses sales during the fair to Diversified Services, Inc. (DSI)
“It’s just the right thing to do,” Marlin said. The business has already presented 100 pairs of glasses to DSI participants and staff.
“Our glasses … have the ISO certification,” Marlin said. “Only five other (companies) have that designation. With the designation right in our company’s name, it gives people peace of mind that our glasses are safe for solar viewing.”
According to NASA (nasa.gov), eclipse-viewing glasses should meet the following
criteria:
• Have certification information with a designated ISO 12312-2 international standard.

• Have the manufacturer’s name and address printed somewhere on
the product.
• Not be used if they are older than three years, or have scratched or wrinkled lenses.
• Not use homemade filters or be substituted for with ordinary sunglasses – not even very dark ones – because they are not safe for looking directly at
the sun.
Marlin was inspired to begin offering the glasses after a trip to Denver, Colo., in
February.
“We started selling the glasses in May,” he said. “It’s a product that’s needed for the upcoming eclipse. I went to Denver, Colo. to the 58th Avenue wholesale office back in February, and they didn’t have any to supply. I thought, ‘Where are all these glasses going to come from?’”
Solar Eclipse Sunglasses currently sells four varieties, including Cowboy, Eclipse, USA Flag and plain white. Prices range from $2.50 to $4.50 each for a purchase of four pairs, with discounts offered for orders of 50 or more.
In addition, Solar Eclipse Sunglasses will give away two $5 Maverik gift cards per day during the fair. Those who purchase sunglasses will be entered into the drawing.
The booth will be open Thursday, July 27, from noon to 9 p.m.; Friday, July 28, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, July 29, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
For residents who miss picking up a pair at the fair, Marlin said the best way to order is by visiting his website at www.solareclipsesunglasses.com
