TVFD seeks pictures, memories

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Volunteer Fire Department proudly serves the people of Goshen County every day, but in a little over a year, the department will have been serving the community for a century.

The TVFD will celebrate its 100th anniversary in February 2020, and Bill Law, the Goshen County Fire Warden and TVFD firefighter who has served on the department for over 60 of those years, is looking for pictures and other pieces of the department’s history for a documentary the department is producing. According to Law, old photographs of the department and its apparatuses have proven hard to find.

“We’re in the process of trying to get together information for documentary for the history of the department,” Law said. “We’re looking for anything people have. We could film it, use it for backdrop, anything. Old firetrucks, for example. I don’t have any pictures of our original Torrington Fire

Department.

“If we can find anything important it’s going to help.”

Law said the TVFD decided to pursue a documentary because the 100th anniversary of the department is a big deal that warrants more than just a slideshow.

“We didn’t want to do just a slide presentation,” Law said. “We thought it was worth more. The department is behind it and they agreed to spend a few bucks to get something decent.

If we can find anything important it’s going to help.

“What we’re going to try to do is to come up with documentation of the fire department’s history. He’s going to be filming different members of our department doing things.”

Law said that any photos of the old firehouse or old firetrucks, with or without firefighters, would be especially valuable to the project.

Law can be reached at 532-0305, or at the fire warden’s office in the Goshen County Court House.
