TORRINGTON – Following the conclusion of the 2020 American Legion baseball season, members of the Torrington Tigers were recognized for their efforts on the field.

The Tigers had seven East All-Conference players and four All-State players.

Caeden Riley led the way with all-state and all-conference honors, to go along with State and East Conference pitcher of the year awards.

Riley was 5-3 on the season with a 2.834 ERA. He struck out 84 batters in 16 appearances and 11 starts.

“He had a great year on the mound. He was recognized by the rest of the state and the coaching staffs across the state being conference and state pitcher of the year. Hats off to him for wanting to learn and getting better over the course of the year,” Tiger manager Rob Mortimore said. “He had a couple stretches midway through the year where he was almost unhittable.”

Sam Firminhac, Cameron Murphy, Nick Sherbeyn joined Riley on the first team all-conference, while Jackson Jones, Deagan Keith, Tristan Kingsley and Blake Lofink earned honorable mention all-conference honors.

Murphy was a unanimous selection to the first team East All-Conference honoree after hitting a team-best .474. Murphy also swiped 33 bases on the season in 43 games.

Murphy, Riley and Sherbeyn were named to the first team all-state team, while Firminhac made the second team all-state list.

“For the rest of the guys, it’s a tribute to the work they’ve put in day in and day out on the field. They came in every single day and worked their butts off and do what they have to do,” Mortimore said. “They are all well deserving in the accolades they get. I’m glad the rest of the state recognized our guys, but the biggest thing is the compliments you get from other coaches on how respective our kids are and how well they carry themselves on the field. That speaks volumes.”
