Support for those supporting us

GOSHEN COUNTY – The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation invites community members to show their support to firefighters in the first year of Shine Your Light for Firefighters International Firefighters’ Day.
Jeff Harris, Torrington Volunteer Fire Department President, said, “The State Fire Marshals share information with us, and this is something that is new that the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is doing this year.”
NFFF asks people to switch their porch lights to a red bulb on May 4 to celebrate firefighters in their communities.
“May 4 is National Firefighter’s Day,” Harris said. “(I) would like to reach out to the community and see if they would like to participate in the National Firefighters Day on May 4 and have that red light on.”

This event is a way to show support to firefighters who are serving each and every day.
The NFFF also asks people to share their story on social media with #ShineYourLight4Firefighters and encourage people to reach out to www.firehero.org/international-firefighters-day/shine-your-light-for-firefighters/ to complete a form for participation.
Happening on May 5, the NFFF will also be participating in Giving Tuesday Now, a global day of giving.
Giving Tuesday Now typically occurs annually in December, but because of the difficulties surrounding COVID-19 it will also be occurring May 5.
“As an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19, May 5 will be the first #GivingTuesdayNow,” Chris Strub, a contributor for Forbes wrote, “Unifying individuals, nonprofits, communities, small businesses, brands and more through the support of Giving Tuesday’s global partnership infrastructure.”
Individuals in need of red light bulbs for the event can visit the NFFF’s Amazon Associates link at amzn.to/2XWm5oE and any questions can be directed to Donna Clark at dclark@firehero.org.
