TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College agriculture instructor Dr. Monte Stokes was appointed to the Wyoming Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association (WVATA) Board at their recent summer conference in Casper, Wyo.
Stokes has been a member of WVATA for more than ten years, joining shortly after beginning his teaching career at EWC. Currently, he teaches in the agriculture program and serves as the department head for agriculture and business. However, he has taught in the veterinary technology program in past years. During this time, Dr. Stokes has consistently attended the summer conference for WACTE and WVATA. He has also attend the national conference for the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE), which is the national organization for agriculture educators.
“This association has done a lot for me and EWC, and I am looking forward to giving back,” Dr. Stokes said.
“Dr. Stokes is an excellent choice for the WVATA, and EWC is proud of his representation of agriculture and CTE instructors across the State of Wyoming,” said Dr. Heidi Edmunds, Vice President for Academic Services at EWC. “Dr. Stokes is a strong promoter of agriculture and career and technical education with recruits, students, and his colleagues. We value his contributions and look forward to seeing what Dr. Stokes accomplishes in this role.”
His appointment is a four-year term in which, he will serve as treasurer for two years and then move up through president elect and president. This year, WACTE and WVATA were instrumental in supporting the passing of changes to the Hathaway Scholarship to include CTE in the approved curriculum. WVATA has also been involved in the modifications and changes made to the Wyoming State Fair over the past two years. In August, the WVATA will sponsor livestock jackpots at the Wyoming State Fair.
The WVATA is the professional organization for agriculture education instructors in the State of Wyoming and a division of the Wyoming Association for Career and Technical Education (WACTE), which works to promote and support career and technical education. Members are committed to promoting and improving agriculture education and opportunities for Wyoming Agriculture youth.
