TORRINGTON – A trio of sophomores from Torrington High School came out tops locally among more than 200 entrants in the 2017 American Dream Essay Contest, sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Wyoming.
THS student Bailey Walker captured first-place honors with the essay “Lessons From a Dharamasala Daycare.” Sandra Vanatta’s essay “Journey Through the Ranks” earned second place and Quentin Meyer rounded out the top three with the essay entitled “Your Work Represents Who You Are.”
Themes for the contest this year included human core values and “the Code of the West,” a concept from inspirational books written by James P. Owen.
The students will receive cash prizes and Walker will have the opportunity to compete in the state competition. Her essay will be published in an anthology of winning essays from around the state.
Winners of the statewide contest will be announced during a banquet April 23 in Casper.
