Smiles, laughter and colors at Lincoln Elementary

TORRINGTON – The weather may have been cloudy, but kids’ spirits at Lincoln Elementary School were bright.

Music boomed from loudspeakers and inflatable tube men danced in the wind. Teachers in white t-shirts lined the trail all the way from the school to Jirdon Park. They each had a bag of powdered chalk in different colors and a bottle to put it in. As the kids ran past, their teachers threw chalk on them, covering each child in a rainbow of color.

“Remember, don’t pass Mrs. Sims!” one teacher reminded children through her microphone.

The sounds of giggles echoed all around the starting line at the bus loop and each child had a smile on their face, each smile bigger than last. Even with the occasional trip and fall, kids still gave it their all and had the time of their lives.

The run, which staff put on for the kindergartners, first-graders and second-graders, was meant to lead them in healthy physical activity and have fun at the same time. The run started at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 8.
