CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Roger Clyde Hunter, 78, joined the Lord February 9, 2017 at his home with family present, after a brief illness of gallbladder cancer that had metastasized to the liver.

He leaves his wife Darla (Beckers), sister Lynne Ainsworth, (Jack) son Ray (Tracy), daughter Michele (Shane), son Ron (Lisa), son Jeff (Michelle), seven grandchildren Kelsey, Tayln, Jordan, Alex, Brady, Braxton and Amber. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother Frank.

Mr. Hunter was born May 2, 1938, in Torrington to Lois Bernice Sawyer and Raymond Samuel Hunter. In his early years he attended University of Wyoming, earning three degrees in Dairy Science, Agriculture, and Pharmacy. He worked for the FDA, and was the Director of Pharmacy at the Casper Hospital where he met his wife, Darla Beckers, where she was a nurse.

He owned his own pharmacies in Big Piney and Pinedale. After selling his businesses, he was a relief pharmacist in Jackson and Riverton. In his retirement years, Mr. and Mrs. Hunter enjoyed living in several places including Riverton, Fort Collins, Colo., and Casa Grande, Ariz.

Mr. Hunter loved to ski, ride bikes, jeep, fish, golf, travel and he went on cruises to Hawaii, Israel, Panama and Alaska. He had a heart for sharing, serving on missions in Israel and South America and was looking forward to traveling to Uganda in the spring with CrossRoads Church.

His passion for the Lord was felt by all. He was his family’s spiritual mentor until his last day on Earth. He had a passion for his children and grandchildren and their interests and prayed for them daily. Traveling to share in activities with his kids and grandkids or listening to games and golf tournaments online brought a lot of joy to his life. He was an avid supporter of his grandkids sporting events.

Mr. Hunter was an organ donor and continues to give today by donating his body to the Research for Life in Phoenix for gallbladder cancer research.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Hunter will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at CrossRoads Churc,h 3151 N Piper Avenue in Casa Grande, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Ariz.
