Local history featured at GoCo Library

TORRINGTON – Memorabilia from a local man’s 1952 Soap Box Derby win will be the first in what is hoped will be an ongoing series featuring the deeds and memories of local residents at the Goshen County Library.
Photographs, trophies and an article from the Torrington Telegram chronicling the accomplishment of Bill Swanson of Torrington will fill the glass display case for the first exhibit in “A Trip Down Memory Lane,” a first-of-its-kind feature for the local library.
“The ball is just starting to get rolling here,” said librarian Rhonda Everman. “We’re inviting other members of the community to bring their own memorabilia to display.”

Torrington and the surrounding area have a rich history of accomplishments by residents, she said. Everman hopes this first exhibit will inspire others in the community to share their history.
To that end, the library is inviting others to bring in photographs and other memorabilia from their past to share, she said. Ideally, enough people will chose to participate to allow the library to keep a rotating exhibit on display
through August.
“We have quite a senior population in town,” Everman said. “We hope they’ll want to get involved and bring us some interesting items.”
Swanson will be at the library in Torrington at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, to participate in the kickoff of the exhibit.
