TORRINGTON – A young man named Brody Roberts greeted guests at the front door to the Lifeway Church in Torrington on Thanksgiving. Upon entering the church, guests were ushered to the dining hall where 46 volunteers from all around the area had prepared and served a Thanksgiving feast.

This was Roberts first Thanksgiving dinner at the church, but he was glad to be able to help out.

“It’s really cool how it goes out and touches everybody that doesn’t have the most,” said Roberts. “If they want to come and be a part of something with the church, they can.”

Lifeway Church Pastor Cody Dyer told The Telegram the Elks Lodge in Torrington, area supermarkets and individuals came together with donations to make the Thanksgiving dinner a possibility for area family and friends.

The doors to the church opened at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon and guests immediately began entering. The guests varied from members of the church to area friends and families. The church served 100 people at the feast.

In addition to the in-house meal, the church delivered 222 meals to area residents who were homebound or otherwise incapable of attending the church’s Thanksgiving dinner. That number brought the total number of people fed to 322.

“It was really neat to see the community come together like they did,” Dyer said.
