LFL High School junior earns state FBLA vice presidency

LINGLE – Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) High School junior Kelly Peterson is all business. The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) standout was recently elected Wyoming vice president during the organization’s state convention.
Peterson, who is LFL’s chapter historian, said he decided to run for state office to give back to the organization.
“FBLA has provided me with growth as a businessperson and a leader, and I wanted to give back to the organization that has given so much to me,” he said.
Running with the slogan, “KP for VP”, Peterson’s campaign platform promoted the education of current and prospective FBLA members about the value of
the organization.
“I was nervous – I was running against the current state vice president,” Peterson said. “There were also two other candidates, and we all had great campaigns, I think, so it could have gone either way.”
In the end, Peterson emerged the victor – and he’s ready to hit the ground running.
“I want to be able to expand FBLA not only in our school, but in every school,” he said of his goals as vice president. “It’s a
wonderful organization.
“Jade Miller, at Torrington High School (THS), won state secretary/treasurer,” Peterson added. “We’re close friends, and I’m honored to serve with her. It’s going to be fun.”
Peterson has been a member of FBLA for all three of his years at LFL High School.
“I enjoy the leadership experience it provides,” he said. “I also appreciate learning about business outside of the classroom.”
In addition to FBLA, he participates in tennis for THS, indoor track for Cheyenne Central High School and outdoor track at LFL. He’s also a member of student council and National
Honor Society.
“After high school, I’d like to go to (University of California – Los Angeles) and study economics and get a degree in business,” Peterson said. “Then I plan to go out into the
business world.”
While he’s not entirely sure which specific occupation he’d like to focus on at this point, one thing’s for sure – Peterson’s experience with FBLA and his passion for leadership has him primed for success.
