TORRINGTON – Funeral services for Katherine M. Swanson, 75, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at United Church of Christ in Lyman, Neb., with the Rev. Cindy Bowker officiating.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and the casket will be closed at the service. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.
Mrs. Swanson died Feb. 21, 2017, at Heritage Estates in Gering, Neb.
Mrs. Swanson was born May 25, 1941 in Scottsbluff, Neb., the daughter of Harry and Marie (Schmidt) Gabel. She grew up and received her education in Minatare, Neb., graduating high school there. She attended Junior College in Scottsbluff for one year.
She married Richard Swanson on June 2, 1962, and they moved to Huntley, Wyo., where they farmed. She also did bookkeeping for local farm and ranch businesses. They later moved to Torrington.
Mrs. Swanson enjoyed baking, gardening, playing cards, Bible study and bowling. She was a member of the Lyman United Church of Christ.
Mrs. Swanson is survived by two sons Mike (Susan) Swanson of Torrington, and Corby (Desi) Swanson of Geneva, Neb.; two brothers Alvin (Iva) Gabel of Torrington and Harry Gabel Jr of Scottsbluff; and grandchildren Nichole Swanson and fiancé Tyler, Courtney (Gordon) Kautz, Jeannie Hatterman, Micah Hatterman, Josh Swanson and Wyatt Hatterman. Her parents; her husband; one brother and sister-in-law Richard and Ann Gabel preceded in death.
