Hunt seeks re-election to House

NEWCASTLE – State Rep. Hans Hunt (R-Newcastle) has announced his intention to seek re-election to the House District 02 seat he’s held
since 2011.

Hunt said he is proud to represent Goshen, Niobrara, and Weston Counties in the Wyoming House or Representatives and would like to continue to serve his district there. Hunt is Chairman of the Agriculture, State and Public Lands & Water Resources Committee.

Hunt said he’d been approached by people, urging him to seek the Senate seat being vacated by Curt Meier, who announced recently he would be making a bid for the State Treasurer’s office. But Hunt said he hoped to continue working with the Agriculture

Committee.

“I definitely respect the Senate and all that they do,” Hunt said. “It may be an angle I look toward taking in the future, but for now I am content with being in the House and leading
my committee.”

Hunt said he is excited to undertake the committee’s interim work this summer, which is focused on the Board of Control, dealing with water rights and the oversite of water use in Wyoming.

The Ag Committee is investigating how revenues flow and how the Board of Control agency and board are structured to see if there are opportunities to improve efficiency. The Ag Committee is also studying the Colorado River Compact, investigating Wyoming’s part in the larger role of managing the Colorado River and its tributaries throughout the west.

Other issues on Hunt’s interim agenda include furthering discussion on the Right to Repair issue regarding farm equipment and conflicts between equipment dealers and owners and the legality, ease, and ability of owners to repair computerized equipment. Hunt is also looking into a tiered structure for brand inspection fees in the interim.
