Gardening

This year I have a huge new beautiful area for my garden.  The area used to be a beautiful 23 foot long, deep swimming pool that was my real “Happy Place.”  Over the years, however, it became much too expensive to maintain for one person to enjoy, so we finally had it all filled in and the whole area around it redone beautifully.  Now it is my brand new “Happy Place” to enjoy and transform into something new.

I had planned to make the whole area into a vegetable garden, and began to plan for herbs, plants, and a couple areas of interest with antiques.  I put in a path way across the garden, and started planting.  It is a huge space, and my creative husband Toby began to see possibilities for a little beautification of the area.  Before long he had potted beautiful petunias and gazanias in our old antique pots and enamelware, and had brought a colorful assortment of interesting items into my mostly green area.  He also put flat stones as pathways throughout the area so that I could get around easier and it was really becoming a beautiful garden.

It was really fun to see the growing vegetables and herbs interspersed with antiques and beautiful flowers.  I was able to meet with friends, safely 6 feet apart, in my new “Tea Garden” and enjoy being together in our own safe zone.

The “old pool” was gone, and behold, we had something brand new and beautiful!!  Isn’t that what God is able to do in our lives if we allow it?  We see problems in our lives, and as we talk to God about it, He begins to show us possibilities and puts us on a path to guide us through.  When I was working on my garden alone, it was just OK.  But when Toby came alongside and began to put his ideas to work it became something beautiful.  That’s the way I want it to work with God.  When I allow Him to help me work through the difficulties of life, He can see the way to make it something wonderful.  I need His insight!

Psalm 37:23 (My version) “The steps of a woman are established by the Lord; and He delights in her way.  When she falls, she shall not be furled headlong; because the Lord is the one who holds her hand.”  Our path through life may seem long and treacherous at times, but if we continue to commit out way to the Lord and trust Him, He will come alongside and guide us with His light.  We cannot let the weeds of sin or the influence of another person ruin our relationship with God, some of those things must be left behind so that we can move on.  And we must take time to enjoy the beautiful things along the path as we travel, God has placed them there for our enjoyment.
