Crack fill project to launch Monday

TORRINGTON – Homeowners in certain areas of the community are asked to remove their vehicles from street-side parking spots starting next week as the next round of street maintenance gets underway.

A crew from Highway Improvements, Inc., of Sioux Falls, S.D., will be in Torrington starting Monday, weather permitting, filling cracks in the surface of streets primarily in the northern portions of the city. This is part of the normal spring streets maintenance, typically followed up with chip and seal in the fall, said Mark Weis, projects manager for the city Streets Department.

Highway Improvements will be in the following areas:

n Ancha Vista Road - West C Street / Monte Vista Road (4,580 LF)

n Buena Vista Road - West C Street / Grande Vista Road (5,710 LF)

n Haines Street - 17th Avenue / 15th Avenue (2,990 LF)

n Linda Vista Road - West C Street / Monte Vista Road (4,940 LF)

n Loma Vista Road - West C Street / Monte Vista Road (5,120 LF)

n Monte Vista Road - West C Street / Rio Vista Road (21,415 LF)

n 25th Avenue - West C Street / Main Street (10,850 LF)

“This is part of the regular rotation,” Weis told the Telegram this week. “We can work around cars, but it’s easier to get them out of the way.”

The Torrington City Council awarded the bid to Highway Improvements for $37,255.35 in January. The company submitted the lowest of four bids received for the project.

The council set a time limit of 30 days to complete the project, with a target date of April 26, according to a street department memo submitted to the council.
