TORRINGTON – As part of the City of Torrington’s Community Night Out event, the Torrington City Council conducted its regular business meeting at Jirdon Park Tuesday, Aug. 1.
The short agenda included action on the suspension of the liquor license for Grampa Chuey’s restaurant for failure to make state sales tax payments. The City of Torrington was notified Monday, and a check Tuesday afternoon showed the tax had not been paid. Torrington Police Department officers were sent to notify the business that it can not sell alcohol until the payment is made.
In other business, City Attorney Jim Eddington read several ordinances that have been adjusted to meet Wyoming Public Service Commission requirements. A third and final reading will be made at the Aug. 14 council meeting.
Eddington also read an ordinance regarding special event liquor permits and fees. The adjustments to liquor sales permits were made in view of the solar eclipse activities.
Councilman Bill Law suggested changes to the wording to insure that local retail businesses are not negatively impacted. This will be done for the next council meeting, which is sceduled for 11:45 a.m., Monday, Aug. 14, in City Council Chambers.
