Ladies, start your welders

TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College is offering a beginners welding class geared specifically toward women.

From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, faculty in the EWC Welding Technology department will offer instruction to women interested in welding. In the class, students will be guided through the welding process while making a project they’ll be able to take home at the end.

Students are urged to wear sturdy shoes and long-sleeve shirts. Welding gloves, helmets and other necessary equipment will be provided.

Cost is $40 and the registration deadline is Nov. 15. To register, contact the EWC Community Education Department, (307) 532-8323 or in person in the CTEC building on the Torrington
campus.

Goshen County Democrats

TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Democratic Party invites and welcomes interested county residents to their monthly meetings, held on the fourth Tuesday of every month, 6 p.m. at the Goshen County Library Annex, 2017 East A St. in
Torrington.

GoCo Quilters meetings changed

TORRINGTON – The regular meeting place for the Goshen County Quilters group has changed.

Monthly meetings will still be on the second Saturday of the month, but will be hosted in the Bethel Baptist Church gymnasium, 2980 East D St., in Torrington.

The group does not meet during the months of July and August.

Operation 

Christmas Child 

TORRINGTON – Lifeway Church in Torrington will be hosting collection week activities for Operation Christmas Child in November.

National collection week for the drive is set for Nov. 13-20 this year. The church will be accepting filled shoeboxes for distribution to children in need around the world.

Collection times are Monday through Friday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the church, 1341 East M St., in Torrington. Call Sharon at (307) 837-2996 for more information or to inquire about weekend drop-off times.

Camp Guernsey to host military ammo amnesty day

CAMP GUERNSEY – Camp Guernsey will hold its annual military ammunition amnesty day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26. 

The program, in accordance with Department of Defense regulations, is designed for the public to turn in military ammunition only. If you have military ammunition and you don’t know what to do with it, now
you do. 

Maybe your dog found it and brought it home ... it doesn’t matter, according to a press release. There will be no questions asked, and the process is completely
anonymous.

Unexploded ordnance can be dangerous and should not be stored at a private
residence.

Military-style munitions may be brought to the Camp Guernsey South Pistol Range on South Wyoming Highway, located approximately 3/4 of a mile past the Platte River Bridge. Watch for
the signs.

If you feel the ammunition is too dangerous to move, you can call the Camp Guernsey Fire Desk at (307) 836-7810, and a team of experts will be glad to help.  

Western History Center to offer summer recap

LINGLE – The Western History Center, located on U.S. Hwy. 26 five miles west of Lingle, will feature George Zeimens on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. Zeimens will offer a recap of WHC’s summer activities, including archaeology dig sites, the eclipse, the 100-year celebration of the Sunrise YMCA, youth programs and more. The public is invited to attend.

‘Sneaky Fitch’ opens Oct. 26

TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Community Theater production of The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch, takes to the stage at the Eastern Wyoming College Fine Arts Center for seven shows beginning Oct. 26 in Torrington. 

The play follows the fall and rise, in that order, of Sneaky Fitch, an “abrasive disgrace – a no-good, drunken, brawling nuisance,” according to a Dramatists Play Service synopsis of the play. The production features a diverse group of players from the local and EWC communities.

Curtain times are 7 p.m. Oct. 26-28 and Nov. 1-2. Matinee performances will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 29 and
Nov. 4.

Tickets are available in the Community Education office at EWC and will be available in the lobby one hour before curtain times. Cost is adults $9, students 12 and older and seniors $7 and EWC students $3.

Health lecture set

TORRINGTON – Dr. Dan Young from the Country Doctor Nutritional Center in Cheyenne will present a health lecture on naturopathic health at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Goshen County Library Activity Center in
Torrington.

The public is invited.

Fall Craft Sale announced

LAGRANGE – LaGrange will be crafter central on Saturday, Oct. 28, for the annual Fall Craft
Sale here.

Doors open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the LaGrange Community Building. The sale will feature baked goods, jewelry, hand-made crafts and more.

Spooky Organ Concert announced

TORRINGTON – Torrington United Methodist Church will host its fourth annual Spooky Organ Concert with featured artist Fred Krieger.

The concert will kick off at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29, at the church, 2702 Main St., in Torrington. The public is invited to wear Halloween costumes and enjoy the seasonally-themed music. 

Donuts and hot cider will be served following the concert. A free-will offering will be accepted.

Fall Blood Drive

TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will host a fall blood drive, from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30 in the lobby area of the Petsch Athletic Center Gymnasium on campus on East C Street in
Torrington.

Donors are requested to bring a photo identification and their donor cards. The check-in process may be streamlined by completing the health history online at www.UnitedBloodServices.org.

Pumpkin Walk set

TORRINGTON – All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington will host a special Trick-or-Treat event for children aged five and younger on Halloween afternoon.

The Pumpkin Walk will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at All Saints Corner, at the intersection of North Main Street and 26th Street in Torrington. The church requests no scary costumes for the event.

The Pumpkin Walk may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

Women’s Clubs welcomes hunters

YODER – The Yoder Women’s Club will mark the opening of the season with its annual Pheasant Hunters Dinner and chicken and noodle feed, Nov. 4 and Nov. 5, at the Community Building in Yoder.

Service begins at 11 a.m. both days, with hamburger chili with pie and salad on Saturday, Nov. 4 and chicken and noodles on the menu with mashed potatoes, green beans, pie and salad on Nov. 5

The Women’s Club also invites everyone for pie and coffee starting at 8 a.m. both days.

Turkey Trot 5K Nov. 5 at EWC

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Fitness Center and Alumni Association will host a 5K fun run/walk, starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, on campus.

Runners/walkers will be divided into different groups by age. Cost to participate is $15, if paid on or before Nov. 1, or $20 the day of the run. Free t-shirt will be given with each paid
registration.

Registration forms are available at the EWC Fitness Center or the Goshen County Chamber of Commerce office.

In addition to the 5K, organizers will host a free 1K immediately following the race. There will also be a costume contest with prizes for the best Thanksgiving-themed costume or Most Unique costume. Refreshments will be provided.

Vet services offered in Torrington

TORRINGTON – A service officer from the Wyoming Veterans Commission will be in Torrington, conducting community outreach events, throughout November.

Greg Gauntlett will host a series of four outreach events. He will be at the Torrington Workforce Services Center, 1610 East M St., from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 7 and again on Nov. 21. He will also be at the Veteran of Foreign Wars post, 908 W. 25th  St., from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14 and Nov. 28.

Topics will include state and federal benefits, Dept. of Veterans Affairs claims and healthcare services through the Veterans Administration. He will also be available to help veterans and their families apply for benefit, file claims and schedule healthcare services.

Zumba offered at EWC

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Community Education Department invites people to Zumba the Week’s Stress Away with a new class featuring instructor Teresa Brott, beginning next month.

Classes will be held from 3-4 p.m. Fridays, Nov. 10 and 17 and Dec. 1, 8, and 15, in the dance studio of the EWC Fine Arts Building. Cost for the class is $25.

Water operations topic of meeting

TORRINGTON – The Bureau of Reclamation will host an informational meeting on water operations on the North Platte River system next month in Torrington.

Bureau staff will be in the Brand Room on the Goshen County Fairgrounds here at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, to answer questions and talk about operations and accounting from water year 2017 in the reservoirs on the North Platte River.

Water year 2017 ran from Oct. 1, 2016 to Sept. 30, 2017.

Operational scenarios for the current water year will also be presented. Information will include reasonable minimum, most probable and reasonable maximum water supply conditions.

Discussion group invites public

TORRINGTON – The Political Discussion Group of the Goshen County Democratic Women invites interested area women to a series of round-table meetings.

GCDW will host four sessions to discuss local, state and national issues. The meetings will begin at 10 a.m. Nov. 1, Nov. 15, Nov. 29 and Dec. 13, at Garcia’s Restaurant at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 26 and U.S. Hwy. 85 in Torrington.

EWC to host final in concert series

TORRINGTON – The Patti Fiasco Band will be the featured artist for the third and final performance in the Eastern Wyoming College Community Education Department concert series.

The Patti Fiasco will take the stage at the EWC Fine Arts Auditorium here at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. Tickets for the performance are $15.

The band, originally from Wyoming and featuring lead vocalist Alysia Kraft of Encampment, is currently based out of Fort Collins, Colo. Their music has been described as a “soulful brand of rock and roll, with a heavy dose of rockabilly, blues and ballad,” according to an EWC press release.
