Reformation anniversary observance set

TORRINGTON – Our Savior Lutheran Church in Torrington will host a special showing of the film Luther in celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

The public is invited to the Wyoming Theater at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, for the special screening. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Starring Joseph Fiennes, Bruno Ganz and Peter Ustinov, the film depicts the life of Martin Luther, who lived from 1482 – 1546, and his transformation from a “simple monk into the leader of the Protestant Reformation,” according to a release.

Wyoming Theater is located at 126 E 20th Ave. in Torrington.

County Historical Society hosts fall kickoff

TORRINGTON – Airmail pioneers of Wyoming is the planned topic to kick off the annual fall session of programs hosted by the Goshen County Historical Society.

The program is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the community meeting room at Platte Valley Bank on North Main Street in Torrington. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Long-time society members Starley Talbott Thompson and Michael Kassell will discuss research on the U.S. Transcontinental Air Services from their new book, Wyoming Airmail Pioneers 

The air service was the first of its kind in the world. The western leg of the service from Chicago to San Francisco included a Mountain Division, headquarter in Cheyenne, considered the most treacherous leg of the route.

Camp Guernsey to host military ammo amnesty day

CAMP GUERNSEY – Camp Guernsey will hold its annual military ammunition amnesty day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26. 

The program, in accordance with Department of Defense regulations, is designed for the public to turn in military ammunition only. If you have military ammunition and you don’t know what to do with it, now you do. 

Maybe your dog found it and brought it home ... it doesn’t matter, according to a press release. There will be no questions asked, and the process is completely anonymous.

Unexploded ordnance can be dangerous and should not be stored at a private residence.

Military-style munitions may be brought to the Camp Guernsey South Pistol Range on South Wyoming Highway, located approximately 3/4 of a mile past the Platte River Bridge. Watch for the signs.

If you feel the ammunition is too dangerous to move, you can call the Camp Guernsey Fire Desk at (307) 836-7810, and a team of experts will be glad to help.  

Western History Center to offer summer recap

LINGLE – The Western History Center, located on U.S. Hwy. 26 five miles west of Lingle, will feature George Zeimens on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. Zeimens will offer a recap of WHC’s summer activities, including archaeology dig sites, the eclipse, the 100-year celebration of the Sunrise YMCA, youth programs and more. The public is invited to attend.

‘Sneaky Fitch’ opens Oct. 26

TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Community Theater production of The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch, takes to the stage at the Eastern Wyoming College Fine Arts Center for seven shows beginning Oct. 26 in Torrington. 

The play follows the fall and rise, in that order, of Sneaky Fitch, an “abrasive disgrace – a no-good, drunken, brawling nuisance,” according to a Dramatists Play Service synopsis of the play. The production features a diverse group of players from the local and EWC communities.

Curtain times are 7 p.m. Oct. 26-28 and Nov. 1-2. Matinee performances will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 29 and Nov. 4.

Tickets are available in the Community Education office at EWC and will be available in the lobby one hour before curtain times. Cost is adults $9, students 12 and older and seniors $7 and EWC students $3.

Fall Craft Sale announced

LAGRANGE – LaGrange will be crafter central on Saturday, Oct. 28, for the annual Fall Craft Sale here.

Doors open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the LaGrange Community Building. The sale will feature baked goods, jewelry, hand-made crafts and more.

Pumpkin Walk set

TORRINGTON – All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington will host a special Trick-or-Treat event for children aged five and younger on Halloween afternoon.

The Pumpkin Walk will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at All Saints Corner, at the intersection of North Main Street and 25th Avenue in Torrington. The church requests no scary costumes for the event.

The Pumpkin Walk may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

Water operations topic of meeting

TORRINGTON – The Bureau of Reclamation will host an informational meeting on water operations on the North Platte River system next month in Torrington.

Bureau staff will be in the Brand Room on the Goshen County Fairgrounds here at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, to answer questions and talk about operations and accounting from water year 2017 in the reservoirs on the North Platte River.

Water year 2017 ran from Oct. 1, 2016 to Sept. 30, 2017.

Operational scenarios for the current water year will also be presented. Information will include reasonable minimum, most probable and reasonable maximum water supply conditions.

Discussion group invites public

TORRINGTON – The Political Discussion Group of the Goshen County Democratic Women invites interested area women to a series of round-table meetings.

GCDW will host four sessions to discuss local, state and national issues. The meetings will begin at 10 a.m. Nov. 1, Nov. 15, Nov. 29 and Dec. 13, at Garcia’s Restaurant at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 26 and U.S. Hwy. 85 in Torrington.
