Group starting “Tennis Mondays”
TORRINGTON – A group of local tennis players is trying to kick off an informal tennis night, Mondays at the Torrington High School
tennis courts.
Local tennis players MaryAnne Smith and Kim Putnam invite like-minded people to join them at the courts Monday at 6:30 p.m. There’s no formal competition planned, just “Running around laughing and burning calories,” according to an email from Ms. Smith.
The evenings are open to all ages and no prior experience is necessary.

Events scheduled for June
TORRINGTON – Several family events and fundraisers are scheduled this month in the community.
The Class Act and J&S Car Wash will host a fundraising Cut-a-Thon from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (June 2 at 1916 Main Street in Torrington. A minimum $20 donation is requested and All proceeds will be donated to the Waggin’ Tails Animal Shelter.

and fun.
 June 12 will be Children’s Day at Torrington Office Supply 1:30 to 3:30. Cost is $5 for ages 8 and under. Participants will be making Father’s Day gifts. There is limited space available. Interested parties may register at Torrington Office Supply.
The North Platte Valley Board of Realtors Cancer Fundraiser will host its Co-Ed Softball Tournament on June 17.  Proceeds will benefit Goshen County residents and families affected by cancer.

Carwash to benefit FBLS
TORRINGTON – The Future Business Leaders of America group at Lingle-Fort Laramie High School will host a free carwash this weekend to raise funds for a summer sojourn to the organization’s national convention in Anaheim, Calif., this summer.
FBLA students will be at J-S Car Wash, 421 E. 17th Ave. in Torrington, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, washing cars to raise money. Free-will donations will be accepted and the students have gathered business sponsors to donate based on the number of cars cleaned during the wash-a-thon.

Lifeway to host VBS
FORT LARAMIE – “Galactic Starveyors” is the title of an upcoming Vacation Bible School set for June at the Fort Laramie Community Center here.
Lifeway Fort Laramie of Torrington will host the VBS for students in preschool through sixth grade from 6 to 7:45 p.m., June 12 – 16. The event will feature music, crafts, games and more, all around the general theme, “Searching the Visible, Discover the Invisible.”

Polka in Pine Bluffs
PINE BLUFFS – The Pine Bluffs Heritage Society will host an afternoon Polka Dance party on Saturday, June 17, at the Historic Pine Bluffs High School.
Music will be provide by The River Boys.
The party will begin with dinner at 1 p.m. and dancing is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. at the school, located at 603 Elm Street in Pine Bluffs. Cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple, which includes the meal.

Big Horn Festival tickets now on sale
BUFFALO – Tickets are now on sale for the July 7, 8 and 9, 2017 Big Horn Mountain Festival, set for July 7 – 9 in Buffalo.
Special advance discount tickets are available until May 31.
“We have an outstanding lineup for 2017,” said Paul Jarvis, one of the organizers of the event. “In addition to our great lineup of well known, established musicians, we have several Wyoming bands and some great young talent.”
The 2017 Big Horn Mountain festival has scheduled an outstanding lineup of Bluegrass, Old Time, Folk, and progressive music. Tickets for the festival can be obtained at Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, The Sports Lure in Buffalo, CB Music in Sheridan, Music Service Center in Gillette, or on-line at www.bighornmountainfestival.com.
The Big Horn Mountain Festival will begin at the Johnson County Fairground in Buffalo early Friday afternoon, July 7 and run until late Sunday afternoon, July 9. In addition to the outstanding band performances, festival participants can attend several of the performer’s workshops. Parking lot jam sessions are a favorite feature of the festival.
The festival also offers the Big Horn Bluegrass Camp, July 5 – 7, a day camp for kids from 8-18. The camp features music instruction from the camp bands, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades and Prairie Wildfire. Sign up on line at www.bighornmountainfestival.com.
