Health workshop
TORRINGTON – The Senior Friendship Center in Torrington, Wyoming Center on Aging and Stanford Medicine will host a free health workshop for people with chronic health conditions and their family, friends and caregivers.
The six-week workshop will run from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Aug. 2 and continuing through Sept. 16 at the Senior Friends Center, 216 E. 19th Ave. in Torrington The focus will be on learning to better manage health using evidence-based strategies.
Topics will include exercise for health, problem solving, decision-making and understanding the emotional affects of chronic health problems. Participants will also learn techniques for health eating, action planning, communication and evaluating treatment plans.

Pancake Breakfast
TORRINGTON – The Torrington VFW Post 2918 will host its regular community pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6, at the post hall, 908 W. 25th Ave. in Torrington.
Cost of the meal will be $6 for adults and seniors and $4 for students of all ages. Children 12 and younger will eat free.
The menu will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee and juice. The honored group for August wil be Class Act employees and their families.

Community in the Park event
LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lions Club will host its annual Community in the Park event from 6 p.m. till dark on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Lingle City Park here.
The Community Band of Torrington, along with groups and bands from other communities around the area, will provide musical entertainment as the L-FL Lions serve ice cream cones. The Lingle Volunteer Fire Department will host a hamburger fry and the city pool will be open for free swimming for kids.
Ice cream will be provided by the Goshen County Sheriff’s Office. L-FL Lions request donation of non-perishable food items for the Goshen County Food Banks to benefit Care and Share and Land of Goshen Ministries. Good, used eyeglasses will also be accepted to benefit the Lions Eyeglasses

program.

New student registration at EWC
TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College will host a new student registration event on the main campus in Torrington on Aug. 11.
First-time students will have the opportunity to meet with an advisor and register for classes for the Fall 2017 semester. The college will also be offering ACCUPLACER placement exams, designed to ensure appropriate placement in English, reading and mathematics classes. Fee for the computerized examinations will be $20 and students should bring a calculator to complete the math portion of the tests.
During the testing, parents are invited to a program entitled “You and Your Student. Advisors will be available after the tests to assist with registration and staff from the college’s Financial Aid office will be available to discuss options, including preparation of the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid.

Smart Driver course to be offered
TORRINGTON ­– The Torrington Senior Friendship Center will host a Smart Driver course from the AARP on Aug. 14.
Times for the course will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Senior Center in Torrington. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.

Free concert
TORRINGTON – North Hills and SONrise Church will host a free, back-to-school concert starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Pioneer Park on West D Street here.
Performing will be Lincoln, Neb.-based Christian rock band VOTA with special guests Foreverlin. The concert is for all students in junior and senior high school and features free food
and music.

Auditions announced
TORRINGTON – Auditions for the upcoming Goshen County Community Theater production of The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at the Eastern Wyoming College Fine Arts Auditorium on West C Street in Torrington.
Audition materials may be picked up from 6 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the 21st and Main building in downtown Torrington. There will also be opportunities to practice for the auditions that evening.
Calls for seven individuals, plus three, unskilled “gunslingers” who will have one line each are open. There is also need for a singer/narrator who’s able to play old cowboy songs on the guitar. Additional cast members will also
be cast.
The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch follows the title character, a “no-good, drunken, brawling nuisance,” through the town of Gopher Gulch. There are few tears when Sneaky Fitch apparently dies, but when he rises from his coffin, the story changes.
