Council seeks input on plan

CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Business Council Board of Directors will be accepting comment and input from the public on proposed updates to the states Broadband Enhancement Plan through April 26.

The board will consider updates to the plan during its quarterly meeting, set for May 16, in Riverton. The proposed additions have been recommended by the Broadband Advisory Council, an 11-member board appointed by the Business Council to move Wyoming to a position of leadership in the new digital world by ensuring every citizen and business has access to affordable, reliable, redundant and future-proof broadband.

Oregon Trail square-dance

GERING, Neb. – The Oregon Trail Dance Club will host a regular dance at the IOOF Hall in Gering, kicking off at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, with Lucky calling. PLUS dancing will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The club will host a second dance in Kimball on Sunday, April 28, with pre-rounds from 2:30 to 3 p.m. with Steve Kline calling. The main dance will begin at 3 p.m. with Lucky and Steve Kline, with the regular pot luck to follow.

Summer archeology program seeks volunteers

LINGLE – The deadline is May 15 for applications to a summer archeology program for young people, hosted by the Western History Center.

The program, which begins June 3, is for area middle and high school students. Applicants must be at least 14 years of age.

Republic Women to meet

TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Republican Women’s group will meet at noon Friday, April 19, at Deacon’s Restaurant in Torrington. Goshen County legislators will be on hand to provide a legislative update.

History program planned

TORRINGTON – The Western History Center in Lingle will host a program, The Story of Dr. Brownrigg Home and Hospital.

The program will be presented by Dennis Eisenbarth and Rob McIntosh at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 25, in the Platte Valley Bank meeting room, 2201 Main Street, in Torrington.

Final Easter Cantata performance Sunday

TORRINGTON Body of Christ is the title of the upcoming Community Easter Cantata, coming later this month.

Written by Pepper Choplin, the final performances for this year will be 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, at Lifeway Church, 1341 E M St., in Torrington. 

Narrators for the Cantata this year will be Julie Newman and Grant Jones. Joyce Willeke will direct the Cantata choir.

All performances are free and open to the public.

Local author to host book launch

TORRINGTON – Author Diane Nighswonger of Torrington will host a launch party for her latest book, The Lucien Saga, from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 27, at 21st and Main in downtown Torrington.

The Lucien Saga tells five stories of “kings who are rescued, kidnapped, ignored and mocked by the girls they love,” according to a press release.

The public is invited to attend.

National Day of Prayer

GOSHEN COUNTY – All interested residents are invited to attend the annual National Day of Prayer observance, scheduled for noon, Thursday, May 2, on the south side of the Goshen County Courthouse in Torrington.

Prayers will be offered for the military, churches and families, “asking God in intervene in our lives in ways large and small,” according to a press release announcing the event. “Please join us in exercising our right to assemble and our right to free speech, as we approach God in repentance and supplication.”

County cattlewomen meeting

GOSHEN COUNTY – The Goshen County Cattlewomen will meet at noon on Friday, May 3, in the Brand Room at the Goshen County Rendezvous Center at the Fairgrounds in Torrington.

The meeting will include installation of officers and a book review by Mary Flitner of Greybull. Flitner’s book, My Ranch, Too will be available during a book signing on Saturday at the Goshen County Library.

Cost for a box lunch at the meeting is $10. Parties are requested to RSVP to Kaye Erskine, (307) 837-2602 or kay@vistabeam.com by May 1.

PEO hosts Parade of Tables

TORRINGTON – Hats off to Mothers is the theme of the sixth annual PEO Parade of Tables, set for Saturday, May 11, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Social Hall of St. Rose Catholic Church, 620 E. 22nd Ave., in Torrington.

The day will feature afternoon tea, with seating at any of 30 tables, set with family heirlooms, personal treasure, holiday memories and more. Anyone interested in designing one of the tables may contact Donna Cay at (307) 532-3222. Raffle tickets will also be available for $1 for a chance at a 50/25/25 drawing.
