Mobile food pantry serves 200 families

GOSHEN COUNTY – Around 200 families had approximately 26,000 pounds of food – including turkeys, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, salad, salad dressing, potatoes, and more – along with hundreds of coats to choose from last week during local 501(c)3 charitable organization Goshen HELP’s first mobile pantry as a partner agency with the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies.

Earlier in the month, Goshen HELP Executive Director Kyle Borger said the organization paid the cost to bring in the truck – a mobile pantry that stopped its regular visits to Goshen County in May 2018.

Hundreds of residents and dozens of volunteers filled the Pavilion at the Goshen County Fairgrounds Friday as several tons of food were distributed just in time for Christmas celebrations. Following the event, volunteers delivered excess items to the Goshen HELP food pantry at 2510 West C St. in Torrington.

“We’re going to host a food pantry at the fairgrounds the third Friday of the month as often as possible … so the plan there is we can distribute a substantial amount of food, bring the excess back to (the Goshen HELP) food pantry and distribute it throughout the month,” Borger explained. “Our hope is to raise $2,000 a month to support both our mobile food pantry and the food pantry at our office.”

Borger said he expects the food pantry in his office to have set hours in January.

For future pantries, Goshen County residents must bring a photo ID and sign up for the pantry. The food pantry application is online (goshenhelp.com). It may be printed and brought along or filled out at the mobile food pantry.

In addition to food, Goshen HELP provides emergency services such as rent and utility assistance.

To donate, send checks via mail to Goshen HELP, P.O. Box 394, Torrington WY 82240, or go to www.goshenhelp.com to contribute online. Those wishing to volunteer, set up an appointment, or for more information may contact Borger at (307) 509-0377 or goshenhelp@gmail.com.
