GERING, Nebraska – What the Torrington High School Blazer wrestling team lacked numbers at its January 23 dual against Gering the team more than made up for in tenacity and grit.

The final scoreboard for the dual ultimately favored Gering, 58-24. Gering was helped by numbers, however, and secured 18 points through open forfeits in three weight divisions.

Several matches won by Gering came down to the wire, with Torrington athletes falling after three periods of solid wrestling against tough opponents.

The duals opened with two wins for Torrington. At 126 pounds, Gatlin Davis battled Maddox Gardner through three periods before Davis pinned Gardner with 27 seconds remaining in the match.

Torrington’s Brogan Dykes won by open forfeit at 132 pounds.

Kaden Romig pinned Chace Hergenrader in 51 seconds, picking up six points for the Blazers at 150 pounds.

Bryce Hager defeated Mitchell Moravec by fall with 37 seconds to spare in the first period of the 190-pound match.

The Torrington Blazers girls’ and boys’ teams hit the road to compete at the annual Ron Thon Tournament in Riverton, one of the largest wrestling invitational in Wyoming before the postseason.

The Blazers host Scottsbluff for duals on January 30.
