A dress for MS

TORRINGTON – Bartenders at American Legion Post No. 5 are raising money to donate for multiple sclerosis through their tips.

Patsy VanBuskirk organized the fundraiser for the Legion.

“We raise money for MS. I’ve been here for about 30 years and I do it every year. I always get a couple of guys to come in and dress up,” VanBuskirk said. “It helps people here in our community – all of the money stays in Wyoming.”

On Friday, Mark Schuchard and Ken Daugherty dressed up for an “ugly bartender contest” to raise tips to help combat the disease.

Schuchard said that Wyoming has the highest rate of MS in
the country.

“We need a lot more funds to continue help them,” Schuchard said. “We’re going to bartending tonight. Volunteer bartenders and we’re just going to keep it constantly when someone buys a drink letting them know ‘hey this is for MS awareness.’ All tips that we get go directly to proceeds for MS.”

The National MS Society webpage states MS is a disease that disrupts the flow of information from in the brain and most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-50.

The website gives information on the different courses MS can take and tells readers that there are medications to help treat patients suffering from the disease.
