TORRINGTON – A Celebration of Life for Zella Elder, 96, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Vickie Kintzel officiating. Zella passed away Nov. 12, 2016. She had been living at Manor Care in Boulder, Colo., to be close to her son, Kerry.
Zella Marie Burns Elder, a witty, funny, energetic, caring woman was born in Little Rock, Ar.. She was the only child of Lotus Burns and Mabel Douglas Burns Cross.
Zella met Bob (John Robert) Elder of Torrington in 1946 while he was stationed in Little Rock during World War II. They married and moved back to Torrington, where they raised two boys – Roger born in 1949, who preceded them both in death, and Kerry born in 1953. They were happily married for more than 35 Years until Bob passed
in 1983.
Zella was active in the United Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years, serving as the First Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher and Chair of the Women’s Circle. She sold Avon Products for 18 years. The Elder’s were a Scouting family; Bob was a Scout Leader and Troop Master for more than 30 years and Zella was the strength behind the man. After Bob’s death, she worked at Eastern Wyoming College until she was 85. She loved working in the lunchroom and chatting with all the students and faculty. Dancing, music, a good movie, and shopping were her passions in life.
Zella is survived by her son Kerry Elder and his wife Kate Doyle of Boulder; grandchildren, Ryan (Elizabeth) Elder of St. Paul, Minn., Kevin Elder and Cullen Elder of Albuquerque, N.M.
