COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Zada Dot Mizell, age 16, departed this world suddenly on May 11, 2022.

Zada was a born in Denver, Colorado, and has lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the past 15 years. She was a junior at Doherty High School.

Zada was born on June 12, 2005 to Shane Mizell and Cheryl (nee Bower) Mizell in Denver.

In her short life, Zada understood the importance of giving back. She had a generous nature, would give anything to those in need. She loved Christmas for the joy of thoughtfully giving each person just the right gift.

She loved spending time with friends, creating and enjoying art. She found beauty in nature and miniature tiny things. She was drawn to light in all its forms. Zada was on the school bowling team and participated in the LINK Crew to support incoming freshmen. She was employed at Target where she had many friends among her coworkers.

When asked to describe Zada, friends chose words like smart, funny, loving, kind, a smile and laughter you would never forget, and like “sunshine in a person.”

Preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Richard and Darlene (nee Schlagel) Bower of Torrington, Zada is survived by her parents Cheryl (Will) and Shane (Michelle), her grandparents Ricky (aka Gurpy) and Tammy (aka GG) Mizell of Oklahoma and Cheri Marquart (Ray) of Denver, her aunts Elizabeth (Geoff) Goetz and Mindy (Clint) Mizell, a host of cousins, extended family, friends and her beloved pets Cajun and Luna.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022, between 2 and 5 p.m. at 2878 Maverick Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. Her parents ask that where possible attendees bring sunflowers (Zada’s favorite) to create a memorial sea of sunflowers display.
