CASPER – Torrington High School (THS) student artists Cali Yeik and Reece Halley both earned blue ribbons at this year’s 53rd Annual Wyoming High School State Art Symposium in Casper.

“Our students had a terrific showing at the Wyoming High School Art Symposium in Casper,” a post on the THS Facebook page read. “Art teachers from around the state pick the very best in all mediums and award blue ribbons to artwork that is a standout in design, technique and artistic talent.”

Seventeen THS students entered artwork in this year’s event. Of the 17, two were awarded blue ribbons.

Yeik was awarded a blue ribbon with her design and glazing on a ceramic vase, while Halley’s blue ribbon was awarded for her painting.

In addition to receiving a blue ribbon, Halley was also awarded the First Lady’s Choice Award. As a result of winning the award, her painting will hang in the Wyoming State Capitol for one year.

THS art teacher Steve Law noted the competition is the nation’s largest art show for high schoolers with over 3,500 pieces of artwork being judged in the event.

“THS has a fine reputation in showing well in both 2-D and 3-D art and again this year Cali won for her design and glazing on a ceramic vase,” Law said in an email. “Reece was awarded a blue ribbon as well as The First Lady's Choice Award. This was special and the second time a THS Artist has won this.”

Law expressed his delight in the accomplishments of Yeik and Halley.

“I am really proud of both of these artists,” Law said. “They put on a fine showing, as did the 17 other THS artists on display. A good year in art.”
