XC Trailblazers take second in Kimball Invite

KIMBALL, Neb. – The Torrington Trailblazer cross-country boys took second as a team Saturday at the Kimball Invitational, led by four runners in the top-15.

William Fluckiger led the way for the Blazers, finishing fifth with a time of 19:02. Jacob Polkowske (19:47) and Pake Haun (20:03) crossed the finish line back-to-back, taking 11th and 12th. Quentin Meyer was not far behind, snagging 15th with a time of 20:26.

Cameron Juma rounded out the top-five for the Blazers, clocking a time of 21:11 for 25th. Tristan Kingsley took 27th with a time of 21:23, while Jesse Lay slid into 36th, clocking a time of 21:51.

As a team, Torrington finished with a team score of 64, taking second behind Bridgeport, Neb., who had 49. Bayard, Neb., (108), Cheyenne South (109) and Hemingford, Neb. (141) rounded out the top-five teams on the boys side.

The Torrington girls only had three competitors Saturday. Jaiden Hopkins led the way, turning in a time of 24:46 to finish 12th. Renee Cline was one spot behind Hopkins, clocking a time of 24:56. Brittany Schlager was the final Lady Blazer to cross the line, taking 40th with a time of 29:43.

In the girls’ team race, Pine Bluffs picked up the win with 39 points. Bayard took second (53), while Cheyenne South (62) and Bridgeport (64) were the only other teams with enough runners to record a team score.

Torrington returns to competitive action in their sole home invitational of the season. The Blazers host the Torrington Invitational Friday at the Cottonwood at Torrington Golf Course. Action is slated to start at 1 p.m.
