Wyoming coffee shops support breast cancer programs

TORRINGTON – The Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative is coordinating with volunteers and local coffee shops across the state of Wyoming to host the first annual, statewide “Cups4Cups” event on Saturday, April 14th.

Participating coffee shops are encouraged to “pink out” their business and order special “Cups4Cups” coffee cup sleeves. Participating coffee shops will also receive special marketing benefits on social media and at WBCI’s annual Wyoming Pink Ribbon Run.

After the event, the coffee shops will donate a portion of their proceeds from the event to WBCI, and all funds will be granted to a breast cancer early detection screen voucher program that is available in every Wyoming county.

There is already a number of coffee shops committed to the event across the state. Any and all coffee shops interested are invited to email the WBCI for an informational packet.

“There has been an incredible amount of interest from local coffee shops to participate. We have a lofty goal to engage 100 coffee shops across the state, all pinking out on April 14th,” said Laurie Health, founder and president of the WBCI advisory team. “We are excited to be able to partner with these businesses and give folks around the state an opportunity to support both their local community and breast cancer prevention.”

Now in its third year, the volunteer-led Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative raises funds to increase breast health education, financially assist with breast cancer screenings, fund cancer patient navigation programs, and offer support to breast cancer survivors and their families.

All of the funds raised stay in the state of Wyoming. The funds are then granted to various Wyoming breast cancer programs and are also used to fund a statewide voucher program through the Department of Health’s Wyoming Cancer Resource Services. The Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative partners with the Wyoming Community Foundation as its fiscal sponsor and grant manager.

Through the first two years, the WBCI raised over $150,000 and granted into 21 programs in 15 Wyoming counties. 2018 grant applications will be available in early summer through the Wyoming Community Foundation with funds awarded by the end of the year.
