Wilson P. (Bill) Miskimins

TORRINGTON – Wilson P. (Bill) Miskimins was born near LaGrange, on April 18, 1930, to Robert and Chattie Sweaney Miskimins.  He passed away in Torrington on December 5, 2021.  He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1947, and the University of Wyoming in 1957.

On December 10, 1950, he married Virginia Schaffner. Until her passing in 2019, they shared an extraordinary life together for 68 years.

Together, they had five children: Sally, Keith, Susan, Phyllis Kay and Dee Dee.

For all of his life, Bill was a cowboy, with a love for ranching, cows, horses and all things country.  Bill’s occupations included farming in Wheatland, helping build the Glendo dam, the UW Experiment Farms in Gillette and Torrington and the Soil Conservation Service and ASCS in Torrington and Douglas. Beginning in 1978, he was able to spend the rest of his life living a life-long dream of ranching in both Torrington and Van Tassell. 

Bill was a Christian man of character devoted to his wife, children, parents, grandchildren and extended family and friends.  A man willing to lend a hand, an ear or a dollar to virtually anyone who asked.  

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, daughter Phyllis Kay, and brothers Dick, Mel, Tom, and John.

He is survived by his children, Sally (Tim) Haid, Keith (Susan) Miskimins, Susan (Lowell) Kautz and Dee Dee (Bill) Nida. Brother Larry and sisters Phyllis Black, Katie Gregory, Lois Patterson, and Jean Dalton; grandchildren, Amy, Nicky, Amber, Sally, Stacy, Lucas, Katie, Jack, Angie, Kelly, Androcles, Michael, Becky, Cari and Liam, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.  

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on January 15, 2022 at the Lincoln Center  2298 East D in Torrington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Grace c/o David Dick, 410 N. 6th St., Douglas, WY 82633, or a memorial of doner’s choice.
