LARAMIE – William ‘Bill’ Jones of Laramie passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.
He was born to Bill and Frances Jones on Oct. 10, 1945 in Torrington.
Bill graduated from Torrington High School in 1964 and went on to obtain a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1969 from the University of Wyoming. While in college, he met his wife Susan Barnard of Evanston. They were married on Aug. 26, 1967. During his career, Bill worked for Control Data Corporation, the National Engineering Laboratory, and the University of Wyoming where he retired in 2006 as the Supervisor of Computer Operations in Information Technology at UW. In 2010, Bill and Susan moved to Easton, Kan., to be closer to family. Bill loved his family, riding his motorcycle, hunting and fishing, helping others, welding, and listening to rock music. He was a ‘great’ grandpa and a trusted handyman who was loved so very much and will be missed by so many.
Bill was a Master Mason, member of Torrington Lodge No. 29 A.F. & A.M. of Wyoming and Past Associate Grand Guardian of Wyoming for Job’s Daughters. As a Mason, he impacted the lives of many young men and women throughout the state of Wyoming in Demolay and Job’s Daughters. He was also a Patriot Guard Rider, a member of ABATE of Wyoming and Kansas, and the Christian Motorcyclists Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife Susan, son Richard (Julie) of Keller, Texas, daughter Keira (Jerry) of Easton, seven grandchildren, eight siblings-in-law, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. A gathering to remember Bill will be held in the summer in Laramie and Torrington.
