The Water Drop

TORRINGTON – Today is Friday the 13th – do you know where your rabbit’s foot is? In 2017, there happens to be two Friday the 13ths – Jan. 13 and Oct. 13.
On a day where phobias rule, we expect people to worry about the top 10 phobias, like spiders, snakes, dogs, or germs. Possibly the fear of the date Friday the 13th, paraskevidekatriaphobia, might be the greatest risk to the average
person.
As we look further into these fears, surprisingly there are many related to water. Water? Who’s afraid of a little H2O? Turns out it’s quite a long list. So, recognizing the unluckiest day on the calendar, we take you on a deeper dive into what some people dread about our essential, reliable, invaluable and favorite natural resource, water.
Aquaphobia – the persistent, unwarranted and irrational fear
of water.
Ablutophobia – the fear of washing or bathing.
Antlophobia – the fear of floods.

Astraphobia or Astrapophobia – the fear of thunder and lightning.
Bathyphobia – the fear of depth or deep water.
Chionophobia – the fear of snow.
Cryophobia – the fear of extreme cold, ice or frost.
Cymophobia or Kymophobia – fear of waves or wave like motions.
Dipsophobia – Fear of drinking.
Hygrophobia – fear of liquids, dampness or moisture.
Limnophobia – fear of lakes.
Ombrophobia – fear of rain or of being rained on.
Pagophobia – fear of ice or frost.
Thalassophobia – fear of the sea.
Certainly, these can all be serious conditions that some people deal with. But when listing fears – rational or irrational – the water we provide should not be on
that list.
Our water comes from a great source, goes through a treatment process and is tested before it reaches your home. Nothing to fear here. Drink all the water you want – on Friday the 13th and every day after.
