Why read the local newspaper?

Posted

People today look to a variety of sources for news: local newspapers, local television stations, local radio stations, internet web pages, family, friends and neighbors. All these sources provide an immense amount of information and work to keep their fellow citizens informed.

The local newspaper is considered by some to be an old-fashioned means of receiving the news, but for some, it remains their most relied upon news source. Newspapers serve several purposes, but one of the foremost principles is to keep the citizenry informed of what they need to know in a timely, accurate and
reliable manner.

The Lusk Herald is dedicated to obtaining the latest news, researching the facts, asking challenging questions and delivering a newspaper that provides readers with the accurate, up-to-date information they need to make well-informed decisions.

It is the Lusk Herald’s goal to keep the newspaper focused on local events, local stories and provide the citizens with vital information about community meetings, local government and elected officials.

Readers may come across articles obtained from outside news sources like Wyoming News Exchange or Associated Press. The sources of these articles can come from all over Wyoming and the world. While these reports may not have come from Niobrara County or even Wyoming, they may contain vital information our readers and the public need to know.

The Lusk Herald also provides information, inspiration and perspectives from different members of the community. The Lusk Herald has several contributing writers who share their perspectives on society, religion, spiritual well-being and the community.

The Lusk Herald is also in the process of reaching out to local public officials and having them submit guest editorials to keep the citizens informed of the various happenings of our local cities, towns and the county. We hope these editorials will help provide essential information to the public, directly from our public and elected officials.

Newspapers, and the news in general, have a notoriety for their “doom and gloom,” but our goal is to keep the news balanced by providing our readers with the information they need to know and the information they want to know. The news is not always about what is happening in area town halls and courtrooms.

The Lusk Herald shares the stories of the people. These stories can involve a wide array of topics, whether it is an article about someone who just retired after 30 years with a company, an article about an award-winner or something heartbreaking, like a neighbor losing their home. We try to focus on the positive, but sometimes it cannot be avoided.

The Lusk Herald has been extremely fortunate to have neighbors who are willing to call us and share their stories. We thank them for their generosity and hope this will continue so we can deliver the best well-rounded and community-focused newspaper to our readers.

For those who are on the move and need a more accessible way to read the news, the Lusk Herald provides up-to-date information on our website at luskherald.com.
