TORRINGTON – Officers serving a warrant to an unnamed individual Monday ended up netting possible drugs and weapons in a home in Torrington.
Officers from the Torrington Police Department were attempting to serve a warrant at a home at 1153 High Street in Torrington on Monday. As they approached the residence, officers reported seeing someone looking out a window, who then disappeared from sight, Police Chief Timothy Hurd said.
Officers reported they could smell marijuana smoke coming from the home and decided to call for a supervisor. While waiting for the supervisor to arrive, two unnamed persons reportedly exited the residence and were detained by the officers.
Officials requested a search warrant for the home, asking the two detained individuals if anyone else was inside, Hurd said. The pair claimed the house was empty.
Upon entering the residence, officers discovered several people hiding in the home, one in the space between a refrigerator and a wall.
Also found was as much as three pounds of what’s believed to be marijuana, as well as an undisclosed amount of two different white powders believed to be heroin and cocaine, pending chemical tests, and several firearms.
According to Goshen County Jail records published online, five individuals were booked into the jail on Monday, all arrested at the location. The five are Reginald Steven Smith, Annalis Leena Renee Rocha, Clayton Eugene Paules, Anthony James Ellett and Cameron Akins, as well as one unidentified juvenile, Hurd said.
All five individuals were charged with Interference with a Peace Officer. Smith was also charged with possession of marijuana. As of Tuesday morning, all five were being held without bail.
Hurd said the incident remains under investigation.
