TORRINGTON – Memorial services for Virginia L. Cottier, 95, will be 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at Saint Rose Catholic Church with Father Carl Beavers officiating. Virginia died Aug. 7, 2018, at Goshen Healthcare Community and cremation has taken place. 

Memorials may be given to either Saint Rose Catholic Church or Waggin’ Tails Animal Shelter. Arrangements are by the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com. 

Virginia was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Paulding, Ohio, the daughter of Victor and Martha (Strable) De Laet. She grew up and received her education in Ohio and after graduation started work as a checker in a grocery store. 

She married Wes Cottier on June 23, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo. They moved to Nashville, Tenn., and later to Hagerstown, Md. They then moved to Paulding and then to Torrington in 1955. They stayed in Torrington until Wes retired in 1977. They moved to Arizona, returning to Torrington in 1999.

Virginia was an artist and enjoyed sewing. She was a member of Saint Rose Catholic Church parish and a member of the women’s guild there.

Virginia is survived by a daughter ,Linda Greenwald, and two sons, Larry Cottier and Bob (Sally) Cottier, all of Torrington; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wes; a daughter Carolyn Lauck; and three brothers.
