University Women ‘Equal Pay Day’ bake sale set

TORRINGTON – The Torrington/Wheatland branch of the American Association of University Women will host a fundraiser in April to raise money to help finance scholarships.
Plans are still in the works for the “Unequal Pay Day” bake sale, scheduled for April 10. The name is a play on the so-called “Equal Pay Day,” the “symbolic day when women’s earnings ‘catch up’ to men’s earnings from the previous year,” according to a press release from the group.
According to the National Partnership for Women and Families, April 2017 Fact Sheet, women in Wyoming earn 64-cents for every dollar earned by men.
Application forms for the 2018-19 AAUW Torrington-Wheatland scholarships are available through the Financial Aid Office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington. Scholarships are awarded annually to students entering any regionally-accredited college. Preference is given, but not restricted to, students planning to attend Eastern Wyoming College, Western Nebraska Community College and the University of Wyoming.
During the group’s regular February luncheon meeting, the AAUW elected new officers including Co-Presidents Madelon Daniels and Janet Bass, Secretary Lynn Wamboldt and Treasurer Dee Ludwig. The next regular meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 6, at Sweet Lou’s Bakery in Torrington.
